How to Make a Tart Pan Wreath-Vintage Inspired

Repurpose an Old Tart Pan into a Winter Wreath.

This wreath came about when I was cleaning out the shelfs to my pantry and stumbled upon my old tart pan. It had begun to rust in multiple spots and I did not feel right cooking with it anymore. I put it into a box, out in my garage, for a donation drop off. The next day when I was heading out, the old tart pan caught my eye. Except this time I saw it as a metal wreath.

I immediately pulled it out of the donation box and brought it into the house. I was so excited to get started on my new idea. I absolutely love the chance to repurpose something into a better version of itself. You can view more things repurposed in my How to Turn Thrift Store Finds into Impressive Decor post.

Good-Bye Old Tart Pan, and Hello Winter Wreath!

This DIY tart pan winter wreath was so easy and fun to make. I will defiantly be on the look out for more old tart pans when I go thrift store shopping from now on. The old tart pan I had come with a removable loose bottom which made my this wreath already half done before I even had begun. Like I said super simple and fun to make, with an amazing outcome.

Lets get Started and Let it Snow

The first step was to create a flocked (snowy) look on my winter sprigs for the wreath. This step is optional of course but I thought it would be fun to try out the faux snow spray paint by Krylon. Plus since there is no snow here in South Carolina, I figured it would remind me of the snow back in Massachusetts where I grew up. As long as I do not have to shovel snow and be freezing again, its beautiful to look at.

The faux snow paint comes out pretty thick, so make sure you are standing further back than if you were using regular spray paint. I sprayed my winter sprig, the extra pine cone and leaves to look like it had a light snow dusting. I did find that it can be a little messy to work with and dries much slower than regular spray paint.

The results came out great. Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the greenery before hand. I was so excited about making this tart pan wreath and was rushing before I had to pick up my daughter from school. Typical mom life I tell You! But hopefully you can imagine what my winter greenery looked like beforehand.

Candle Light Glow

I love the glow of candle lights at night. They can give off such a warm and cozy feeling. I light candles and use white stringed lights all year round.

I originally had plans to put some fairy lights inside around the tart pan. So the thought of candle lighting was already in the works, when I came across these neat show lights I found at Lowes. They are actually to be used as window candles, and have a sticky front side to them. I did not peel off the film on the front to use the sticky side for this DIY.

Anyway, the best part was they come with a timer option which is very convenient once you have the tart pan winter wreath up on the wall. I really think adding a candle made the whole winter wreath come together.

Assembling your Tart Pan Wreath

At last you are ready to assemble your wreath together. All I used was a hot glue gun to attach my candle and winter greenery. I started by glueing the candle to the bottom back side of the tart pan in the center.

While that was drying, I lightly bent my winter greenery into a slight curve so it would fit nicely around the inside of the tart pan. Then simply glued down the stem. Lastly, I glued my extra leaves and pine cone to be placed in front of the candle to hide the glue and stem.
