Easy Spring Time Terrariums

What’s not to love about spring? The birds start chirping a little louder than usual, Spring flowers start to rise up from the ground and the all trees start to get swollen buds on them preparing for a bloom. It is so beautiful to watch as nature unfolds in front of our eyes. While the wonders of spring are blooming outside, it’s nice to bring that same feeling into our homes by creating easy Spring time terrariums.

Mini Greenhouse Terrariums

Fresh Earthy Smells

If you have ever been inside a greenhouse, then you have experienced the amazing earthy and fresh smells that comes from the inside. As a kid, I used to love to play inside my mothers greenhouse because I thought it was one of the neatest places to be. Nothing much has really changed since then. It’s hard to believe but my mini greenhouse terrarium actually has that same smell when filled with fresh Spring plants.

To begin my mini greenhouse terrarium, I like to start by filling it with a thin layer of natural fish tank pebbles on the bottom. I do this for looks and to help catch some of the water that sometimes spills over when watering. Next, I grabbed two aged terra-cotta pots and filled one with yellow mini pansies and the other with pet grass. You can of course choose any plants you like. I wanted to give my kitty a little surprise this spring. Did you know you can take your old plastic pots and very easily turn them into aged terra-cotta or stone looking pots? Visit how to Glamorize your Plastic Planters. You would be amazed what a little paint can do.

Once you have your plants where you would like them, you are ready to add some small spring touches. I added a small bird’s nest and a bird I bought at Hobby Lobby and some mini vintage glass bottles that my grandmother gave to me many years ago. Lastly, I added a little bit of moss mix here and there around the bottom of the pots and corners of the terrarium. The wonderful thing about indoor terrariums is you can use all year if you want. Right before summer, I will most likely load with some new plants.

Spring Succulents

This Spring terrarium idea came to me when I came across this super cute galvanized metal and glass container. It was way to cute to pass up! I also had a lot of small faux succulents left over from my post on How to Make a Succulent Wreath Frame. So it only made logical sense to use the faux succulents in my new container. I first layered in some river rocks on the bottom. Next, I grabbed a small ceramic frog I bought a couple years ago from a Dollar Store and placed it inside on top of the rocks. Then I picked out a few of the faux succulents I had, and added them in around the frog. Super quick, cute and easy to do. It is another great Spring terrarium that can be around much longer than spring if you wanted to. I love having that option with home decor.

Geometric Terrariums

Geometric terrariums are definitely fun in shape. I have had my triangular terrarium for years and never get bored with all its possibilities. For this spring terrarium, I decided to go with mini purple pansies. Purple is my daughter’s favorite color and I knew she would go wild to see some fresh Spring blooms in the house. The only thing left to do was to add in some speckled eggs. This Spring terrarium is simple in design, but sometimes that’s all you need.

Bird Cage Terrariums

The next Spring terrarium is a bird cage. I absolutely love using bird cages for decorating purposes, especially around Spring time. The bird cage in the picture below, I just recently found while shopping at Hobby Lobby. I loved its French fleur de lis on top and its vintage charm. To learn how to have a French presence in your home, visit my post on French Country for the Home. Although this is not a true terrarium in the sense that there are glass walls, it gives the illusion of one wild and overgrown .

Overgrown and Beautiful!

To create my bird cage terrarium, I placed about 3 decorative moss balls inside. Then took some faux white freesia stems and placed a handful to look like they were growing out of the sides. Then to hide the stems towards the bottom of the bird cage, I grabbed some moss and placed around the base. This bird cage terrarium is so easy to do and will really bring in some vintage Spring charm into your home.

Apothecary Jar Terrariums

Perfect For Your Kitchen or Bathroom

Nowadays apothecary jars are a very common home decor used in several ways when it comes to decorating. But before apothecary jars were used as decor in homes, they were used by Pharmacists, Healers and even found in some kitchens to preserve herbs for natural treatments.

I decided to make an apothecary jar terrarium for my kitchen counter. My daffodils and pansies I bought were way to big for my small apothecary jar. Luckily, I had some faux grass sprays and some small white flowers on hand. I placed the grass in first and then added the white flowers in after. Next, I wanted to bring a little Spring time warmth into this look. I grabbed my wooden tray which kinda has that wood box planter feel to it and placed my apothecary jar terrarium into it. Then I added in two of my very own faux topiary trees I made. Faux topiary trees are the perfect look to have around your house for Spring and are so easy to make. Just visit How to Make and Decorate with Topiaries. I still felt it needed one last touch, so I placed a topiary ball into the wood tray too. I really like how it came out, and love how just this little terrarium with my topiaries changed up my kitchen for this Spring.

Tall Lantern Terrariums

The last Spring terrarium I will share with you, is the tall lantern terrariums. These work great indoors and or in porches too. For me this is just another awesome reason to love tall lanterns. I find so many uses decorating with them all year round. Just like the others, this terrarium is also very simple to put together.

I started off with one of my tall lanterns from Pier 1 Imports I bought a few years ago. Then I placed this beautiful little maiden hair fern I had, inside. It is one of my new favorite house plants I have recently acquired. Next, I wanted to add some Spring colors that would pop, out against the black lantern. I had a few large faux purple pansies that I added into the ferns planter and on the bottom of the lantern. I love mixing real plants with faux to get the look I want. The last step was taking some moss and placing it all around the planter inside. This will take you no time at all to put together and you will have the cutest lantern terrarium this Spring!
