How to Make a Succulent Wreath Frame

The Natural Beauty Of Succulents

They offer us a positive example by conserving water and flourishing in very difficult circumstances, reminding us that we are stronger than we realize and even the most arduous situations is not the end of the line.

Plant The Future

Lets Be Social

Most people fall easily in love with the natural beauty of succulents. They tend to look like pieces of artwork. One of the main reasons I chose them for this DIY. The succulent wreath frames were a fun afternoon craft for me and my mother. We went for a walk one night after one of our famous family Sunday dinners and started talking about what to put on our front doors. We wanted something that was not quite winter nor spring. I said something square and not the typical round wreath. Thats how the frame came about. Then at the same time we both looked at each other and yelled out Succulents! And so the succulent wreath frame was created.

The Attractive

Shapes

Of Succulents

There are so many shapes, sizes and colors when it comes to succulents. They require low maintenance and are quite resistant. When grouped together, succulents create a pretty impressive master piece. You can literally grow them almost out of anything: clear glass bowls, shells, rocks, wood, and the list goes on. But how about on a picture frame? Okay, well unless it was one of those air plants, a frame of succulents would have to be faux. But that is perfectly okay because it turned into a great DIY project which I am going to share with you today.

A Succulent Wreath Frame

I am absolutely in love with how these turned out. It might look complicated but believe it or not my mother and I were done in a couple of hours. I promise you will have a blast with this one. For starters picking out your color story and succulents is just the beginning of the fun. The other half is creating a beautiful succulent frame for either a wall in your home, your front door or a place upon a shelf.

The First Steps to Making your Succulent wreath Frame

Before you jump into wiring on and glueing your succulents, I suggest laying everything out around your frame and doing a little pre-planning as to where you want to place certain ones. A couple of the succulents sprays we actually pulled apart, so that you can disperse the little buds and have them coming out around the larger succulents.

A Little Wire

and Glue

Some of the larger succulent sprays will need to be wired on to stay in place, with a touch of glue too. You will not have to worry about wiring them all. Really, it will just depend on how sturdy your frame is and how heavy your faux succulents sprays are. I think my mother and I only had to do about 2 or 3 wired on. My mother had a wider frame so she used less wire than me.

Pick a Focal Corner to Start

The best way to start gluing your succulents down to your frame is by picking the focal corners. You will not be covering the whole frame. Maybe 2 corners and a side or 3 corners and a side. Once you have established those focal corners, it is time to relax and have some fun. All the hard planning is done at this point and you just want to start gluing your succulent sprays on. Always work the larger sprays on first and the smaller ones last.

Watch Your

Garden Grow

As you continue to glue your succulents on, its kinda like watching a small garden grow before you eyes. It gets very exciting the closer you are to being finished. For more fun faux plant DIY crafts, visit my How to Make and Decorate with Topiaries.

Once you have achieved the look you wanted, you are ready to get mossy! I think I just came up with a new catch phrase. Leave a comment at the end if you agree getting mossy might catch on. Anyways, You will want to take some of your moss and start to glue it first on top of any stems or wire exposed on the frame. Then continue filling in around your succulent grouping. We kept adding moss until there were no gaps left in our succulent grouping.

The Magic Of Moss

I do not know if it is the soft sponge-like feeling of the moss in my hand or the amazing fresh woody smell it has, but I absolutely love working with moss any chance I get. The moss in my opinion really gave these succulent frame wreaths a finished look. We even glued the moss to the side of the frame in the succulent grouping, to give the impression it grew around the frame just like the succulent plants.

“Overall, the best place to put a succulent is the place in your house known as the fame and reputation quadrant, which is the room from which you project your personality to the world.”

Catusway

There is not a place in my mother’s house or mine where these succulent wreath frames do not look good. I have moved mine around a few times now and I get excited all over again when I see it in a new spot. The best part is, they can be up all year round in a home. It does not fall into any particular seasonal category. I love anything I can get multiple uses and looks out of throughout the year. Defiantly a favorite DIY decor for me.
