DIY Address Planter From Pallet Wood

Add Curb Appeal to the Front of Your Home

Made From Pallet Wood!

If the front of your home is in need for some curb appeal, a DIY rustic address planter may be the answer. It is sure to bring some charm to your door step. For me, this project all came about when we replaced our front door, which had the original house numbers on it . But after installing our new front door and painting it, I could not even imagine putting the house numbers on it. So a DIY rustic address planter was the way to go. The best part is we got to recycle the wood from a pallet that we already had on hand. For my husband and I, the pallet wood was just going to be burned in our fire pit one night. Its not the only wood I have saved from potentially being burned and turned into a project. Check out my post on the DIY rustic coat rack here.

Dimensions

The first step, was to decide on how large we wanted this planter to be. Now if your planning on making one it will depend on where you plan on hanging it and the space you have available on your own home. I began by going on the hunt for a plastic window box that would fit inside of my wood planter. You do not have to do this step, but my concerns were having water damage over time, from watering the plants inside the planter. I shopped around and to my surprise found one at the Dollar Tree store.

The overall design was created around the plastic window box. The The dimensions used to build our address planter was 26″x14″ (HxW) for the back panel and 15.5″x6″x8″ (WxHxD) for the planter box holder. Once your measurements are decided, the fun can begin. While I was busy figuring out the look and feel design for the planter, my husband cut the pallet wood to size and sanded them down for me to stain.

Assembling your address planter

I used a dark walnut color for my wood stain. I wanted a stain that would not blend in with the bricks on the outside of my home. It has a dark rustic feel and was the perfect choice. I also added a clear coat to protect my newly stained wood. While my pallet wood pieces were drying, I decided to spray paint my black address numbers with a silver hammered spray paint that you can find at Lowes. This made my address numbers more visible with a great contrast to the newly stained pallet wood.

Enjoying your new curb appeal

Once your rustic address planter is put together and filled with plants of your choice, its time to hang it up and enjoy. The rustic address planter is very eye catching and will definitely make your home stand out among your neighbors. If you do not want the trouble of caring for plants, this rustic address planter can always be made as just a rustic address plaque to hang from your home, which looks just as nice.

My husband and I together had this rustic address planter done in one weekend. Though you can easily have it done in one day if needed. I enjoyed this DIY project quite a bit and have received tons of great complements from family and friends. I am sure your rustic address planter will bring in just as many complements.
